The First Working Conference was successfully held in Rivatex

On September 6th, 2017, the Confucius Institute at Moi University (CIMU) held its first working conference in Rivatex, which was attended by deans from Moi University and discussed CIMU’s teaching program in the new academic year.

Huang Peixi, Chinese director of CIMU, and attended by Prof. Simiyu Sitati, Dean of School of Engineering, Prof. Timothy Sulo, Dean of School of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Prof. Justus Murunga Wamukoya, Dean of School of Information Sciences, representatives from school of Tourism, school of Education and School of Aerospace Sciences also attended the conference.

Prof. Huang first made a brief introduction about the condition of Chinese courses, the class size and the number of students who had passed the HSK examination and got the Confucius Institute Scholarship, etc.

Afterwards, all the attendants discussed in depth about the form of offering Chinese courses in the new academic year and how to properly arrange the time allocated for the course, how to balance language learning and professional study, etc. A lot of constructive views and suggestions were put forward during the discussion.

Based on the discussion, Prof. Huang formulated a plan for the opening of the new academic year in each college. Specific dates were also settled with representatives from every college for the next individual meeting to finalize the course. In the next ten days, Director Huang will visit the colleges one by one and finalize the detail of Chinese language courses for this semester.

At the end of the conference, Prof. Huang expressed his gratitude to all the attendants and hoped that the meeting would continue to be held as a regular working session, which was endorsed and strongly supported by all attendants.
