Network Spring Festival Gala, A Bond between China and Kenya

At local time January 30th, both the teachers and students at Confucius Institute at Moi University (CIMU) participated in the recording of the Network Spring Festival Gala organized by Confucius Institute Headquarters and NOCFL. A performance, by the name of Sino-African Friendship Has Been Long and in the form of Sangjuban (Three Sentences Plus a Half), depicted the long history and the positive future of Sino-Kenyan friendship.

The notice of the Network Spring Festival Gala issued by Confucius Institute Headquarters received positive responses and elaborate preparation from teachers at CIMU. After thorough discussion, teachers decided to choose Sanjuban, traditional as well as unique, as the form of CIMU performance. Meticulous efforts were put forward by CIMU teachers, during which time teacher ZHOU Lei shouldered the responsibility of writing the lines of the performance and recording the video, and other teachers of student training and preparing outreach materials. With the help of the teachers’ explanation, students gradually understood the performance from, Sanjuban and contents of the lines, and practiced their lines and actions repeatedly and enthusiastically.

Dressed in traditional Chinese clothing such as Qipao, Ruqun and Shenyi (three different types of dressing with the first two for female and the third for both male and female), students immersed themselves into the performance readily on the day of shooting. Although they have black skins, which is so different from Chinese people, they expressed their love for China during the performance and contributed to its unique artistic style. The history and future prospects of Sino-Kenyan friendship and the cooperation between them was told by their powerful yet loving voices, which shows the profound friendship between the two nations. Before shooting the final scenes, ZHAO Xiaolin, Dean of CIMU expressed her warm hearted wishes for a happy Near Year together with other teachers and students.

A New Year comes with it a new phase for development and will lead to achievements with joint efforts of all. CIMU will make untiring efforts to be another window for people in Western Kenya to learn about China in the new year.
