2018 Summer Camp, Splendid Fortnight in China

From July 14th to 30th , 2018, 9 students in Confucius Institute from Moi University (CIMU),led by the Chinese Director of CIMU Huang Peixi, went to Donghua University, Shanghai, China for a two-week summer camp.

In this summer camp, CIMU students continued to study Chinese language and culture in Donghua University. Every morning, they learnt Chinese language around a theme such as friends, eating habits, travel, etc. Every afternoon, they learnt and practiced Chinese culture like Beijing opera, Chinese tea, calligraphy, etc.

Student Ye Shuhua(Jerusha cheruto Kones)said this summer camp not only allowed her to learn more about Chinese culture, but also made her feel the friendliness of the Chinese people, she really hoped she could study harder and got 2019 scholarship to go back China.

In addition to the study of Chinese language and culture, the students also experience the advanced transportation in Shanghai: Subways, buses, shared bicycles, etc. The students also took the Chinese high-speed train from Shanghai to Beijing. They also took advantage of weekend to go to Wuzhen and Ningbo for cultural investigations.

After successfully completing all the learning contents of Donghua University, CIMU Chinese Director Huang Peixi specially took the students to Beijing to visit the Confucius Institute Headquaters/Hanban. Liu Xiuyuan, the Hanban officer who takes charge of East Africa issue, expressed his warm welcome to CIMU director and students, he was very happy that the students can learn Chinese and sincerely hoped that they could get the Hanban scholarship and go back to china.

The students also went to the Forbidden City and Confucius Temple, which gave them a deeper understanding of Chinese history and help them know more about Confucius, the saint who has influenced China for thousands of years and whose influence has been further extended to the world because of the Confucius Institute.

This summer camp can not only improve students’ Chinese language level and help students know more about China, but also help to the development of China-Kenya relations.
